The one girl that can rock the mullet, amazing!
The mullet, a short on the top and sides, longer in the back hair cut came about through popular media in the 1960’s and 70’s. Artist, such as David Bowie portrayed the style in his “Glam Rock” look, and Florence Henderson toned it down for the family in Brady Bunch. However, it wasn’t until the 1980’s where the style became generally known. Often it was ridiculed as a lowbrow and unappealing style. It stayed strong in certain social groups up until the mid-90’s. It has regained some popularity in 00’s, especially internationally, such as Spain, Mexico and Germany. Also, the movie Joe Dirt and one of my favorites, the futuristic rap crew from South Africa, Die Antwoord, kept the love strong. Sadly, there is one country that don’t get to enjoy the joy and laughter of the mullet anymore. That would be Iran, who took it to the extreme when the Islamic Regime decided to create “mens grooming outlines” in July 2010 which band the “mullet” look. All I have to say is God Bless America, and long live the mullet!
